Eoin Colfer 'Artemis Fowl, Book 1'

Eoin Colfer 'Artemis Fowl, Book 1': "
Eoin Colfer 'Artemis Fowl, Book 1'
Audiobook | Publisher: Listening Library | ISBN: 1400085861 | 2004 | English | MP3 128 Kbps | 328 MB

Eoin Colfer describes his new book, Artemis Fowl, as 'Die Hard with fairies.' He's not far wrong.

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. With two trusty sidekicks in tow, he hatches a cunning plot to divest the fairyfolk of their pot of gold. Of course, he isn't foolish enough to believe in all that 'gold at the end of the rainbow' nonsense. Rather, he knows that the only way to separate the little people from their stash is to kidnap one of them and wait for the ransom to arrive. But when the time comes to put his plan into action, he doesn't count on the appearance of the extrasmall, pointy-eared Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaisance) Unit--and her senior officer, Commander Root, a man (sorry, elf) who will stop at nothing to get her back.

Fantastic stuff from beginning to end, Artemis Fowl is a rip-roaring, 21st-century romp of the highest order. The author has let his imagination run riot by combining folklore, fantasy, and a fistful of high-tech funk in an outrageously devilish book that could well do for fairies what Harry Potter has done for wizardry. But be warned: this is no gentle frolic, so don't be fooled by the fairy subject matter. Instead, what we have here is well-written, sophisticated, rough 'n' tumble storytelling with enough high-octane attitude to make it a seriously cool read for anyone over the age of 10.

Clayton Blaze Blazedell Jr.'s chance for a normal life ended when his father repeatedly threw him down a flight of stairs. After finishing his adolescence in an orphanage, the large man with a striking dent in his forehead plays sidekick to George, a social deviant with a knack for cons.

However, when George is killed, Blaze must come up with a con of his own. With George's ghost to guide him, Blaze just might pull it off. Stephen King's last novel under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman has all the classic markings of the auteur, but is marred even before it starts by King's introduction, where he almost apologizes for publishing the book. Having narrated several King books already, McLarty already knows the author's syntax. His raspy but gentle narration provides a familiar and comforting voice for King fans. His rasp lightens up when delivering the slow-witted Blaze, but then deepens for George's scratchy voice. His old-timer Maine accents also produce a smile, when not evoking mental images of grizzled old semitoothed men.

Join The Hunt To Save The Fox!

The Art Deco Society of California has committed to raise $2,500 to help the Oakland Fox Theater pay down their bills. Now is the time we become a fundraising organization instead of cheering from the sidelines. The economy has slowed down and makes money tight for everyone, including non profits. So please dig deep with a tax-deductable donation and help us help our neighbors. Keep your eye on the Fox-O-Meter, every $100 turns a fox red as we get closer to our goal of $2,500. The Boat Lullabies (A Subsidiary of Square America)

Recently I have had the pleasure of merging with some fantastic writers and artist. Being fortunate to have been introduced to a wide variety or writers and artist I came across the attached link and site. The Boat Lullabies ( A Subsidiary of Square America)

"exert below" Taken directly from the site

"Who We Were: A Snapshot History of America", my heart racing to see the photos inside I went through every link in the site and found that even I could find a trace of my own family inside this book.

Photographs are a link to our past, tell stories of our present, and guide us as we take this journey to the future.

I encourage everyone to Support the Site support our "Artist": Buy the Book today! I did.

For me this book is a collectors item, each picture is rich, as it tells the story, serving as a "Link" to our history, connecting us to our American Family.

Who We Were: A Snapshot history of America- A collaboration between myself, Michael Williams, and Richard Cahan. 350 photos, all taken by amateur photographers, tell the story of America from the 1890s through the early 1970s, literally beginning inside a surry with the fringe on top and ending on the Moon. Of course there's World Wars (two of them!), the Depression, and Civil Rights marches but there's also cave-dwelling child brides and love-lorn bootleggers, rabbit hunters and rat-catching contests.

Could you forgive a person who murdered your family? This is the question faced by the subjects of As We Forgive, a documentary about Rosaria and Chantal—two Rwandan women coming face-to-face with the men who slaughtered their families during the 1994 genocide.

The subjects of As We Forgive speak for a nation still wracked by the grief of a genocide that killed one in eight Rwandans in 1994. Overwhelmed by an enormous backlog of court cases, the government has returned over 50,000 genocide perpetrators back to the very communities they helped to destroy. Without the hope of full justice, Rwanda has turned to a new solution: Reconciliation.

But can it be done? Can survivors truly forgive the killers who destroyed their families? Can the government expect this from its people? And can the church, which failed at moral leadership during the genocide, fit into the process of reconciliation today?

In As We Forgive, director Laura Waters Hinson and narrator Mia Farrow explore these topics through the lives of four neighbors once caught in opposite tides of a genocidal bloodbath, and their extraordinary journey from death to life through forgiveness

Heath Ledger Modest Mouse "King Rat"

Modest Mouse "King Rat" Directed by Heath Ledger

In January of 2007, while visiting his homeland of Australia, Heath Ledger presented Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse with an idea to direct a video for their yet-to-be-released song “King Rat”. Heath’s vision, brave and unapologetic in its nature, would marry his love of bold and original music with his impassioned stance against the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place off the coast of Australia each year.

Always one to operate from his heart and take a stand for what he cared deeply about, Heath’s intention was to raise awareness on modern whaling practices through a potent visual piece without having to say a word. It was his way to let the story, in its candid reversal, speak for itself.

The video was fully conceived down to the last detail but unfinished when Heath passed away in January of 2008. We completed the video in his honor with the support and advocacy of Isaac Brock.

Proceeds from iTunes video downloads in the first month of release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. Sea Shepherd uses direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. We encourage you to visit their site if you are compelled to make a larger donation or volunteer your time. http://www.seashepherd.org

The King Rat video was directed by Heath Ledger, co-directed and illustrated by Daniel Auber with lead animation by Norris Houk, animation by Jade Taglioli and produced by Sara Cline of THE MASSES.

THE MASSES and Modest Mouse are proud to present “King Rat”. We hope Heath’s work inspires you in the same way his passion and bravery inspired us.
